Indonesia Confident of Qualifying for 2026 FIFA World Cup: Minister

Indonesian Football’s Milestone Markers

Youth and Sports Minister Dito Ariotedjo has expressed confidence that Indonesia will qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup under coach Shin Tae-yong’s guidance.

Indonesia was announced as the sole Southeast Asian nation to qualify for the third qualifying round of this year’s World Cup, an unprecedented accomplishment in Indonesian football history.

He underscored, “This is truly remarkable progress that should make us proud, as the Indonesian national football team successfully qualified for the third qualifying round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.”

Praise for the Performance of the National Team

Ariotedjo praised Shin’s current squad, noting its significant improvements.

His perspective was that the team has provided more enjoyable gameplay to football fans in the country.

“Our attacking line and offensive players need further strengthening, but I believe the Indonesia Football Association (PSSI) has evaluated this matter and taken it into consideration,” he commented.

Focus and Future Prospects of an Incident Management Team

The youngest minister in the Onward Indonesia Cabinet advised national team players to remain focused and avoid getting carried away in celebrations or overly enthusiastic about the future.

According to this expert, Indonesia still faces many games on their journey towards qualifying for the World Cup in Canada, the US, and Mexico.

Naturalization Program and Its Advantages

The minister then discussed PSSI’s naturalization program and noted its intent: it should enable Indonesia to benefit from the knowledge and experiences gained from players of Indonesian descent playing more advanced leagues abroad.

He expressed the hope that naturalized players could share the techniques learned in local leagues with their teammates on the national team.
